Meridia

Meridia follows the traditional East Anglia border with the East Anglian Heights marking part of her Eastern frontier. To the south is the London metropolitan area, and Chiltern Hills. The western fringes encompass the Northamptonshire uplands which follow through Leicestershire and whose northern contours delineate the north of the province. The historic city of Leicester which lies in the middle of a constellation of large towns is the proposed capital. This region includes popular beauty spots such as the Chiltern Hills, although it is predominantly a lowland province, famous for the fens and Isle of Ely. It is not short of attractions in the architectural and historic appeal of its villages, towns and particularly the famous city of Cambridge

The province name is the only one to reflect England’s extraordinary global legacy and age of Empire that was made possible by the work of eminent scientists, much of which was done in Cambridge. The developments in cartography and chronography which accompanied the Greenwich meridian, were to be instrumental in charting the naval supremacy which catapulted the country into the worlds first superpower. The name ‘Meridia’ fits the ‘Provence of Ideas’.

The meridian TV channel currently covers Cantia. Nonetheless given her academic and scientific legacy, the name is especially appropriate here. Incidentally Meridia represents the most terrain traversed by the meridian in any province [or anywhere between Greenwich and the North pole]. The name echoes the central and pivotal nature of England’s only landlocked province.

Flag - ‘Rutland pennant’

The cross of St. Georges shifted up and left to reflect Meridias south-western position [in central England]. The meridian line to the right divides the flag into the six pre 1998 counties. The title honours the recent reappearance of tiny Rutland County. The term ‘pennant’ alludes to the nautical contributions of landlocked Meridia.
